Steele's ongoing car photographic series follows his daily findings while living in Los Angeles. In a massive city built mostly for the automobile, private cars become an vital extension of the human body, essential for mobility. Cars also reflect social or political status, yet they all look the same straight out of the factory. They only become unique after an accident. Damaged cars tell the story of a precise moment that becomes frozen in time, much like traditional photography. It can also resemble a sculpture or an expressionist painting. Often times, fixing a damaged car becomes unaffordable and drivers are forced to become creative in order to keep circulating around the city, in a desperate act of ingenuity.

"My work is a fluid visual representation of a state of mind. Using photography and video as a medium, I capture my raw surroundings and sometimes interfere with them to depict personal thoughts and feelings. " – Arturo M. Steele
