In 1977 Blume was shown at the documenta 6 in Kassel.

‘Sonnenuntergang im Gebirge’ (1983) is one of Blume's wallpaper-works. The mountains as well as the writing were applied by stencil and spray paint.

The early work of Bernhard Johannes Blume consisted predominately of painting and prints. In his drawings he groups objects from everyday life in relation to conceptual categories. His works are often accompanied by quasi-philosophic texts.

Bernhard Johannes Blume was born in Dortmund in 1937. After training as a graphic artist and painter of cinema posters and related forms of applied art, he began studying at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Joseph Beuys. There, he also met his future wife Anna, with whom he became known as an artist couple with their surreal photographs of a "normal" bourgeois life.
