Walter Dahn exhibited at documenta 7 in 1982
By using the reoccurring artistic element of erratic slogans, Walter Dahn added his work 'Statement (You will)' to his oeuvre.
Walter Dahn, born 1954, is one of the most important representatives of 'Neue Wilde'. As the co-founder of the Mülheimer Freiheit group and a pioneer of 'Bad Painting', Dahn developed a way of painting that questioned the medium itself. His works have been described as 'synthesizing cultural anthropology', analyzing the visual ideologies of art and everyday culture. As a student of Joseph Beuys, Walter Dahn evolved an approach using grotesque and semi-obscene elements, that seem rapidly painted featuring unkempt motifs fueled by jokes and erratic slogans implying extraordinary artistic instinct.
