Mike Meiré’s CERAMICS are created out of the intention to work against one's own "blind spot" (WORKING TOWARDS THE BLIND SPOT). Can we escape our conditioning? Can we create sculptures that arise in the slipstream of our understanding of form?
By using clay, Meiré highlights the specific character of the ceramic handcraft. First, there is soil being brought into form. Next, there is the phase of hardening, glazing, and burning. In an age of transparency, expectation management, and control, the very imagination inherent in this archaic process of creation is anachronistic. The possibility of failure is given at any time, hence the vision of the actual becoming manifests itself in the final ceramics.
