The 3D character is generated through a method of digitally extracting data from multiple archive photographs that depict the artist between the ages of eight and ten. This work is included in the bigger body of work titled THE MIND IS A VOICE, THE VOICE IS BLIND, which examines the cognitive dialogue between memories and the conscious. Through the approach of incorporating the pre-existing personal archive, it is a form of creating work from memory and further investigates the intersection between 3D-generated and lens-based images.

Simon Lehner’s work generally builds on an autobiographical core as it explores psychological aspects of human emotion and cognition through analytical observation. Each body of work combines various media with its core of photography as a building block for iterations of the photographic process—ranging from large format images, lens-based sculptures, to lens-based 3D animations. Thematically, the works revolve around the psychological aspects of memory, mental health, and identity development.

Through the approach of incorporating pre-existing archive material, it is a form of creating work from memory. The repeatedly extracted data from it creates objects, figures, and environments and thus generates "echo-chambers" corresponding to the human subconscious process.
