CURATED: ROSS GOODWIN

Ross Goodwin is an artist, creative technologist, gonzo data scientist, and former White House ghostwriter. He employs machine learning, natural language processing, and other computational tools to realize new forms and interfaces for written language.

From a camera that narrates its photographs in real-time using artificial neural networks (word.camera), to an autonomous poet on the blockchain (VERSA with theVERSEverse), his work continues to push the boundaries of computational creative writing.

He is the winner of the 2018 IDFA DocLab Award for Digital Storytelling.  Organizations that have featured his work include: Ars Electronica, Sundance Film Festival, Cannes Lions, SXSW, The London Science Museum, The TriBeCa Film Festival Interactive Showcase, The International Center of Photography, The MIT Media Lab, Zurich University of the Arts, GitHub Universe, NeurIPS, Proof of People London, TEDxBoston and more.

Goodwin earned his BS in Economics from MIT and his MPS from NYU ITP.

Ross Goodwin was a ghostwriter for the White House and was on the 2008 Obama campaign team before making a U-turn and devoting his creativity to computational creative writing. Goodwin created the world’s first film from an AI-written screenplay, and in his practice, he pushes the boundaries of poetry on the blockchain.
